On February 22, eighty years have passed since the death in exile of the poet Antonio Machado. Machado died and is buried, along with his mother who died a few days later, in the village of Collioure, in French Catalonia.
He arrived, at the end of January 1939, fleeing from the Franco regime after the fall of Barcelona and was one of the refugees who arrived in France hundreds of thousands at the end of the Civil War.
From Devuélveme la voz we make a small tribute to him with the testimonies of the witnesses who were in his last days and who work in our archive.
Very interesting article that has just appeared in the journal Segle XX, revista catalana d'història written by Marta Piñol in which she analyzes how cinema has reflected the great Spanish emigration of the sixties to Europe with contemporary films and documentaries to the phenomena, as well as as with later realizations.
